Norton displays "Insight Network Threat" and finds a WS.REPUTATION.1 when downloading BusView

Norton has implemented a reputation based check, which warns users that a file they have downloaded has not been implemented enough for Norton to work out whether it is harmful or not. Unfortunately due to the specialist nature of BusView and also the fact it changes every month due to availability of new data, each new edition of BusView has to gain a reputation of at least 5 unique users before Norton will remove WS.REPUTATION.1. It is unlikely at this time that we have more than 5 people using Norton, so this issue will persist. We are working to see if there is a way around this, but at this time it seems not. The only suggestions we have which may help are:

1. Use the supplied Dropbox link - although this still makes Norton complain, it does seem to allow the user to "Trust" the software and the download is not deleted.

2. Download the BusView installer into a new directory that is not scanned by Norton (this is a setting that you can change within the Norton software), and download the BusView installed into that directory. Please note that you should not download other software or files into that directory as Norton would not be able to check those.

3. Go into Norton application and click on Disable Smart Firewall. This will give you a choice of how long to disable it for - we suggest no more than 1 hour. Now download BusView installer, and install (if a Windows Defender message appears, click on Run Anyway). If Norton still complains and quarantines the BusView installer, click onto the message and then click Restore. Once installed, go back into the Norton application and click on Enable Smart Firewall to ensure you are fully protected.

We will keep this article up to date as and when we find out more about this situation.
